On a Summer's day in 2006, I saw something that would change my life forever. This site chronicles my quest, to learn more about the Sasquatch. Consequently, I learn more about myself along the way, and the true nature of humanity.

This is the video I had created to better explain my "Familial Traits" theory using scientific principles using known or baseline data to explore the possible answers of the unknown (cast data), to support my conclusions of who or what trackmakers I have been casting in the high country of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range.   Enjoy

Familial traits and Inbreeding

I have been tracking this group non stop since the spring of 2008. There are characteristics of each member that distinguishes them from the other yet they all seem very much alike. There are some reasons that come to mind so we must explore the possibilities of likelihood of one possible explanation over the other. Above is a group of males from 4 generations ranging from 74 to 4 years of age, this will be our frame of reference to compare to those is question, a baseline if you will. They are also the first males from each generation, below them is a collection of the group of 4 that I have been tracking, now let's do a comparison and contrast to exclude or include possibilities. The first thing that you will notice is that as the genetic code gets diluted by adding in another DNA (female) the changes is more evident as more DNA gets thrown into the mix as the generations progress. Please take the time to study this closely before you move to the next photo, appreciate the differences and similarities of each member of their generation compared to the other. You will notice that the oldest looks much different than the youngest but look very familiar to the generation next to them. This is the dilution of genetic material when adding another variable (female). This is what is to be expected even within a family let alone from an entirely different group as in husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend, social groups, etc whose differences would be much greater. Now looking at the group in question (blue background) you will notice that there is very little change in characteristics. How can this be? Why do we not see the same dilution of characteristics as within known family groups? There can be only 3 reasons from which I understand that can explain this. Let's examine those possibilities. The first thing that comes to mind is cloning:

Cloning has a multitude of issues first of all is the obvious.....there has been no definitive evidence in the U.S. of the use of tools let alone the Nuclear Transfer Technology needed for reproductive cloning done by these individuals. Reproductive cloning has about a 10% success rate. Dolly the sheep took scientists 276 tries to be successful. Then there were the experiments in Russia of making a Man/Ape hybrid that apparently never panned out. Most clones succumb to some sort of immune/infectious disease issue within a short time so I feel safe to say that this would not be likely, let's move on to the next idea.

Quadruplets raises some interesting questions. First of all I could not find any information of quadruplets happening naturally in the wild with primates. In humans it usually occurs with intervention such as fertility drugs. There are many issues with multiple births to include low birth rate, still births, and even a higher incidence of Cerebral Palsy in offspring let alone the mortality risk to the mother. If somehow they share reproductive traits of other mammals then the idea of a litter must be entertained. Remember, no matter how much we think we know about them at this point we cannot exclude any possibilities until they are ruled out no matter how ridiculous they may seem, this is the scientific process so it must be included until disproven . The Platypus is the only mammal that lays eggs rather than giving live birth to their young. Its tail is for storage of fat as well as a rudder and the males have a venomous spur on its hind leg. It is the only venomous mammal besides the shrew. It is these different qualities in this mammal that I call the Sasquatch the "Platypus of Primates" because they seem to share the qualities of human, ape, and something else. The Platypus had given the scientist of the times great confusion because it did not fit the preconceived scientific box of a mammal. I believe a new box will be needed to explain this species.

Inbreeding
This is the most likely scenario I think it can be. There are many reasons for this one given the limited population that there must be and geographic isolation between groups but it does not come without its problems. The major issue with inbreeding is gaining the undesirable recessive or deleterious traits which leads to inbreeding depression. Inbreeding depression from first generation inbreds can lead to many physical and psychological issues such as low birth rate, infant mortality, slow growth rate, and small adults s well as low IQ's. Based on the data that I have gathered through castings could explain why the growth rate on this group is slow and account for smaller adults. Mike Rash a bow hunter/maker and witness described to me an individual being around 6.5 to 7.0 ft tall but looking like a "big boned, frail, animal with silver tips to its hair". The one I had seen was around the same size but being more robust with a dark shiny black coat of hair with a hue of blue. His sighting and my sighting were not that far apart which brings to question if they are limited in height and size because of inbreeding. Scientists inbreed lab rats/mice to keep the genetic strain pure for more accurate research. The ill effects of inbreeding can be circumvented given the right choice of partners. This can be predicted using the inbreeding coefficient, a computed percentage of likelihood that alleles (genetic traits) be identical by descent and passed on to the offspring. This is the defining issue of inbreeding. A father/daughter, mother/son, brother/sister has about a 25% chance of passing on identical alleles (recessive traits) creating issues. A first cousin inbred has a 6.25% chance of problems. Genetic issues have plagued the Amish since coming to America. Growing up close to where the Amish live I have always wondered if they really do look alike or is it the fact that they dress the same and their facial features are covered by hair. I wonder what their feet look like? You be the judge if they look similar.
Conclusion
Based on the data I have gathered on this group I believe them to be of a true biological family based on the similarities of each individual. So they are not a couple or social group who just so happen to be in so many areas all through the Sierras in areas of prediction walking barefoot in some pretty inhospitable terrain for the past three years. The cloning hypothesis does not stand up to the scrutiny of what would be needed to make this viable. Quadruplets does have some merit yet I question the ability of an animal in the wild to be able to overcome the odds of carrying to term and giving birth to 4 offspring with apparently no problems. Inbreeding seems to be the most likely answer given assumed population and geographic isolation. I will continue to gather data and am still presently gathering more trackways the latest being the 15th of October.

Up close view of trackway

This is an up close view of the trackway that I had just come upon. I have cleaned them up to prepare them for casting. The casting material is not as important as the preparation of the track. I come in for a close up so you can see the details of this track. This track has the characteristics of a certain individual however, it is about an inch larger and a bit wider. This could be evidence of growth. A cast comparison could help determine if it is from one of the repeat visitors as well as comparing for growth.

Trackway on the opposite side of the Sierras

This is an area where I was expecting to find more tracks on the opposite side of the Sierras. The snowfall this last winter was more than the past few years so I had to account for this and adjust my trajectory. That area I found more tracks but they were too old to make a positive ID. This site revealed not only what seemed like the same individual but also dermals that appear to be vertical. Check out the next blog and determine for yourself.

Evidence of Heijoshin

I am heading to another area of opportunity where I have found caves high along the faces of mountains. If these individuals do live in the caves high above then these would be good ones to look into. I could not image that they would reside in a shelter that could trap them within the reach of humans. On the way to this area about 2-3 hours in, I come upon this deer. She suddenly notices me but does not seem afraid. Getting to areas like these takes a serious commitment to the subject at hand. This deer does not only seem unafraid of me but comes towards me. Does this remind you of something you might of read before? Heijoshin. While hiking many miles I will put myself in this state to ignore the exertion of many miles and thousands of feet of elevation and to better evaluate the environment around me. I do not think that it is going to take a trailcam photo or a video to fully convince science of their existence. What I believe is needed is to make contact with them. A long term relationship to get a better understanding of them. This sort of documentation would be invaluable in understanding them something that could never be achieved with a specimen alone.

Heijoshin

Heijoshin

The term Heijoshin is actually three words that combines this state of being. We will start with the first:
"Hei" translated in Japanese means "peaceful," calm," or" steady" the closest English translation is "even" or "level" as in "even handed" or "level headed".
"Jo" has a more precise meaning in English translation meaning "always," "constant," or "continually"
"Shin" Is understood as more than just the "heart" that pumps blood throughout your system, but defines the mind, the spirit, the emotion, the character, the whole inner essence of the individual. A soft heart, a hard heart, a lion heart, an evil heart, a cruel heart, a righteous heart a kind heart.
For lack of a more direct translation we will call it a "Peaceful Mind".
Heijoshin is not simply a single attribute but a culmination of of several character traits. Each aspect of Heijoshin may take years of effort, experience, and humility to develop. There are three key areas one most focus on to develop a balance of all three.

(1) The intellect-understanding, wisdom, compassion

(2) The emotions-self control. Lack of is considered a weakness. understanding what state you are in.

(3) The indefinable element known as character, or integrity.
To be able to cultivate this trait takes much patience, fortitude, and brutal honesty to oneself.

This demands a lifestyle of discipline, effort, sacrifice, and commitment. This character trait will help guide you in such a confused and unhappy society. Because we all have different experiences, personalities and circumstances, we will all follow different paths to achieve this same goal.
The paradox of this all is that it takes a conscious effort of training and continual effort to reshape the mind yet what we seek is the byproduct of this training which is something that should be natural and spontaneous.
As one trains diligently one becomes more intimate of the consequences of what one is training for. It is then that one understands the frailty of life and death and the consequences and responsibilities of ones actions. In Iaijutsu (sword battle) the outcome is clearly evident that one lives and another dies, this is unlike karate-do or other "Open Hand" arts where the "loser" may only become disabled or unable to continue the fight. It is through diligent training that the practitioner gets a better appreciation of how tenuous life can be held in the balance. The samurai like other warriors understood that when they awake it could be the last day they would live, a very real thing so one must live as if it is their last day. After all, who knows how long they will live? A healthy person can die just as quickly as one with a terminal illness. I know this well practicing medicine in the Operating Room for over 18 years.

If you knew that you were to die in a week, what would you do? Would you live your last days fulfilling your own needs such as extracting revenge or maybe robbing a bank? Would you sort all of your personal matters or possibly try to reach out to society and give as much as you can with your money and time? Maybe you will ask for forgiveness to those your have hurt as well as forgive those who have hurt you by contacting them. Maybe, just maybe you will then interact with those around you in a more compassionate way. Those who have faced death will have an epiphany of what really matters to them and all of those things they thought were important suddenly are not. The real question is who knows when their time on this earth will end? Why does it take facing death to get a better understanding of oneself? This is the "Human Condition" of how emotions rule how we think thus act. One must walk this earth with the reality that there may not be a tomorrow for them. This is Heijoshin.

This state of mind allows the practitioner to calm their mind thus transmitting this "Calm Energy" to their environment which is felt by those in the forest as it does with those around them. This should happen without thought of it. This state of Heijoshin allows one not to disturb the residents of the wild by transmitting a calm energy not only by mind but also through the way you move within the wilderness while under this calm influence. You will know you are in this state by how the wilderness reacts to you. The creatures of the wild will not fear you and may even come to you, if this happens then you are in the state of Heijoshin.

Bottojutsu at Pyramid Lake/Heijoshen

To be able to walk in the forest alone at night without a gun let alone a flashlight requires much courage. Courage is when you understand the consequences of your actions but do not allow them to sway your goals. This is not something you can buy or pretend to have but acquired through training. Those who have come upon these great beings at night will confess that they feel inadequate even with a gun. As Roy Schrieder said in Jaws "We need a bigger boat!". It is what has allowed the great to succeed and those without to fail. This is the history of Man. One of the hallmarks of courage is the ability to control your emotions. Emotions are not simply feelings about something but a complex cascade of biochemical and hormonal sequences of peptides that match the state of mind you are in. Emotions start at the level of neurons. When you think a certain way like lust, hate, anger, self pity, fear ,love, repulsion, frustration your neural connections begin to connect allowing this cascade process to occur starting at the hypothalamus then to other glands thus sending these neural peptides/hormones to every cell in your body giving you the desired feeling. It is this way of thinking that brings the neural networks or groups of neurons or nerve cells together creating neural networks. It is when you have these thoughts (emotions) on a daily basis that these neural networks have a long term relationship with each other called an Identity.
Can this sort of thinking be addictive? You betcha!!! The same receptors on the cell membrane for emotions are the same ones used for drug addicts. Just as a drug addict will use the same drug a person will use the same emotions to achieve the same effect at the cellular level. As time goes addicts will need more of this emotion or drug to get the same effect. So you can see how emotions can be addictive. We cannot direct our eyes anywhere without evoking some sort of emotional response. Ever wonder why some people are always hateful, lustful, or always feeling sorry for themselves? It is not just an excuse but an actual chemical addiction. Addicts will seek out the drug of their choice or as in emotions those people will create situations where to bring about these sort of emotions. The one thing a hater cannot stand is when you refuse to hate them back, this gives cause to their emotion. This how they deal with the everyday trials and tribulations of life like an alcoholic needing a stiff drink. An addiction is simply something that you cannot stop like an alcoholic who can't have just one beer. This does not mean emotions are bad because they are meant to chemically reinforce connections between humans like love and compassion. It is when they are abused or used inappropriately that they become a problem. While in these states the body transmits an energy that animals will interpret. Ever hear Ceasar Milan ( Dog Whisperer) talk about giving off the wrong energy? Humans however through vocal communication, have relied on speaking for the transmission of information. Humans have relied so much on this sort of vehicle to transfer information that most have lost the ability to feel others energy or true feelings. Politicians understand this and evoke them in their favor. You know, Weapons of Mass Destruction? Fear is an emotion that those addicted to will seek out like horror flicks or place themselves in a situation that allows themselves to be fearful. I love roller coaster rides because they scare the crap out of me however it is not an obsession as those addicted to this sort of emotion.
Ever wonder why animals may be attracted to some people and not others? We as a society have become so lost in the superficial words of others that we have become numb to that ability to feel this energy. This is not something that can be turned on and off like a switch but is a part of you. It is not something that can be faked like a politicians smile. We cannot look at something or think of something without evoking some sort of emotional/hormonal response. We can physically/biochemically change ourselves by just a thought. What is an erection? fainting? embarrassment? This is not science fiction but science fact. We as humans choose day by day moment by moment what we transmit to the external environment.

How does this relate to Sasquatch? Like the animals of the forest they do not care what you say, who you know or how much you make. They only feel your emotional state by energy emitted, posture, and movement within the environment. How can I change this sort of thinking? This is where Heijoshen comes into play. Read on........
